The Learning Paradox

Paradox Book "Job security" has gone. Individual and organizational security is now based — learning, changing, and living amid uncertainty. Paradoxically these are what we as adults fear most! This is the essence of The Learning Paradox.

Companies ultimately create security by creating new value for customers, where none existed before — by introducing goods and services that meet needs that customers may not even be able to articulate.

Leadership and The Learning Paradox

Eighty percent of the technology we will use in our day-to-day lives in 10 years has not been invented yet! How can we prepare for the future? What will create job security?

In the past, if you wanted a secure job you chose a large, stable organization. If you worked hard, were loyal, you would rise up the ranks. Unionization and specialized knowledge also created security. But none of these create security today.

In today's rapidly changing, unpredictable business environment, security is based only on our ability to learn, change, and accept with uncertainty. Paradoxically these are what we as adults fear most!

The Learning Paradox applies equally on a personal and organizational level. Organizational change is rooted in individual change. An organization is just a collection of individuals. To change an organization the employees must be capable of changing on a personal level.

Change, creativity, and ingenuity are the engines of economic growth. Enterprises thrive by creating new value for customers where none existed before — by introducing goods and services that meet needs that customers may not have even be aware they have!
